Further to the introduction of the new hazardous waste regulation
directives on 16th July 2004 waste that has previously been placed
onto skips can no longer do so.
Collections of these wastes can be arranged from your locations
upon your request.
The items are now classified as special and must be carried under
Hazardous Waste Collections to registered special disposal points
around the UK.
Asbestos, Batteries, Meat Waste, Computer Monitors, Fluorescent
Tubes, Fridge/Freezers, Liquids, Aerosols, Oils, Oil filters, Empty
Paint Tins, Solvents, Televisions, Lorry Tyres, Car Tyres, Bitumen,
and Wet Waste are to name a few (please contact us for verification).
You have a responsibility to make sure that these waste are not
placed into your waste containers. If any of these materials are
found to be in your possession we can collect them separately from
you.
Waste Management Facilities Ltd has an obligation to make sure
that all the waste that we collect from you is done so in a safe
and legal manner and conforms to all European and local directives.

Q. How do I know if my waste is hazardous?
a. If it is listed as hazardous in the List of
Wastes (England) Regulations 2005 – contact your nearest depot
on 0500 053429 or www.defra.gov.uk
Q. Is all hazardous waste affected by this new legislation?
a. Yes.
Q. How can I identify my waste?
a. If you suspect that your waste is hazardous
but are not sure consult the Environment Agency advice on hazardous
waste or Waste Management Facilities Ltd on 01202 535888.
Q. Is special waste now defined as hazardous waste?
a. All special waste will be hazardous but there
will be some waste streams that are currently not special that will
be hazardous.
Q. Are all premises that produce hazardous waste affected?
a. Yes, with the exception of premises producing
domestic waste or in specific categories.
Q. What happens if I don’t register my premises with
the Agency
a. You will not legally be allowed to have hazardous
waste removed from site.
Q. Are there any exemptions?
a. Yes there are, please contact the office for further details

Q. Is registration a one-off payment?
a. The fee for notification is annual. There will
also be a fee per consignment.
Q. Can someone else register my premises for me?
a. Yes, Waste Management Facilities Ltd can register
each of your locations on your behalf at a cost of £25.00
per site.
Q. Is paperwork still required for moving hazardous waste?
a. Yes. There is still a consignment note procedure
although the 72 hour pre-notification period will be removed.
Q. We don’t produce waste anymore; the stuff on site
has been there for years, we inherited it?
a. You are still responsible (under law) for the
proper management of this waste as you are the holder.
Q. Once I have been given a premises code, what will it
be used for?
a. It will be used as part of the consignment note
serial number and shown on the consignee quarterly returns.
Q. What is the cost likely to be?
a. Costs are likely to increase as the new regulations

Q. Will waste still be accepted into landfill from 16 July
2005?
a. Yes, but the producer will have to supply more
information regarding the waste properties and specifications.
